Short CV: Dr. Manuel Varas-Godoy is a biochemist from the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso in Chile and a PhD in Biotechnology at Andres Bello University in Chile. During his PhD (2008-2012) he study the effect of a family of non-coding mitochondrial RNAs on cancer development using a melanoma model. Later he completed his postdoctoral degree at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden (2013-2015), and his work was focused on how calcium signals could regulate the progression of bladder cancer, and how standard therapies such as Bacillus Calmette Guerin could modulate these types of signals. On his return to Chile in 2015 he joined as a young researcher in the Reproduction Biology Laboratory of the University of Los Andes to begin his independent research in the field of tumor extracellular vesicles. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Science, and Principal Investigator at the Center for Cell Biology and Biomedicine (CEBICEM) at San Sebastián University, and an Associate Investigator at the BASAL Centro Ciencia & Vida (CCV).
