Current EVents Breakout Sessions
Do you want to convene a group and discuss an exciting new or neglected topic that is not on the ISEV2020 program? Do you want to connect with EV researcher from your part of the world? Do you want to discuss new research ideas that could advise funding bodies on possible ideas for funding initiatives? Do you have another idea for a networking event?
NEW: Live networking sessions on topics not included in the program can be discussed using a video enabled platform at ISEV2020 called Current EVents.
- Current EVents are breakout sessions that are conceived in advance of or during the ISEV2020 meeting
- The sessions will take place during the ISEV2020 meeting and will be proposed and run by ISEV members
- They will be open to both registrants and the public
- Current EVents will be held on ZOOM as 1 hour slots
- The format will be scientific panels and other interactive topical sessions, excluding commercial presentations

Emerging Trends in EV Research in HIV, NeuroAIDS & Drug Abuse - To register, click here.
The role and potential applications of EVs in HIV-1 infection, drug abuse, cancer, immune responses and neurodegenerative diseases have been well documented. Despite the success of combination antiretroviral therapy (cART), there is increased prevalence of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) in HIV-1-infected individuals on cART, which poses a major health care challenge. Adding further complexity to this long-term antiretroviral use is the comorbidity with drugs of abuse such as morphine, cocaine, and methamphetamine which, in turn, can exacerbate neurologic and cognitive deficits associated with HAND. Furthermore, HIV proteins, such as the transactivator of transcription (Tat) and the envelope protein (gp120), as well as antiretrovirals themselves can also contribute to the progression of neurodegeneration underlying HAND. In the field of NeuroHIV, drug addiction, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, EVs hold the potential to serve as biomarkers of cognitive dysfunction, targets of therapy, and as vehicles for therapeutic delivery of agents that can ameliorate disease pathogenesis. The current satellite symposium aims to align experts in the fields of NeuroHIV, drug abuse, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases to share their latest insights on the role of EVs in regulating neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, peripheral immune response, and HIV latency in HIV-infected individuals with or without the comorbidity of drug abuse. The satellite symposium will be open to all the ISEV attendees.

Content: Rigor and Standardization for CSF EV Studies Interactivity: Scientists with expertise and interest in CSF and/or EV studies.
Goals: To organize a task force(s) comprised of members who will address best practices for rigor and reproducibility of CSF EV studies including but not limited to: i) considerations towards a roadmap for collection, handling and storage of CSF EVs; ii) quality controls for CSF; iii) quality controls for EVs isolated from CSF; iv) comparisons of central vs. lumbar CSF; v) comparisons of CSF from living vs. postmortem donors; vi) CSF contaminants; vii) CSF study limitations.

Standardisation and Rigor Task Force for Bacterial EVs - To register, click here.
The MISEV2018 guidelines are an important resource for EV researchers that enhance the quality of research. The guidelines emphasize that research to date has focused on mammalian (chiefly human and mouse) EVs, but that the principles are applicable to all EVs. Research in the field of bacterial/prokaryotic EVs has lagged behind the eukaryotic field and so some of the guiding principles are difficult to comply with. We hope to develop a clearer picture, as an ISEV Standardisation and Rigor task force, to offer MISEV2018 guideline interpretations and advice, and to highlight the difficult areas requiring further research. The goal of this session is to define the key areas and to identify ISEV members with a strong interest in the topic for the task force.

Student Network on EVs (SNEV) - To register, click here.
SNEV is a virtual network run by students with a goal to connect EV students internationally.
Our mission is to develop platform for students to discuss, network, and collaborate with other students and early career researchers.
SNEV programme will consist in post-doc and industry talks, journal club and virtual conference. We also aim to have informal coffee catch-ups, open to the community, that will allow for virtual networking.
We hope that through ISEV EVents, we can make SNEV known to the broader community of PhD students that might be interested in join us and be part of our growing network. Also it will be helpful to raise interest from ISEV participants
We believe EVents section would bring good opportunity for us to introduce this new project.

EVs in a Pandemic: Roles for extracellular vesicles in COVID-19 - To register, click here.
This will be an open forum to discuss the roles, impacts, and effects of EVs in connection with SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. It will feature experts such as Leonid Margolis, Esther Nolte-t Hoen, Fatah Kasanchi, Phil Askenase, and Ken Witwer, with full audience participation strongly encouraged.
