The Journal of Extracellular Vesicles (JEV) was founded in 2012 as the first journal of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles.  JEV publishes open access research on extracellular vesicles, including microvesicles, exosomes, ectosomes and apoptotic bodies.  The journal provides an exchange of data, ideas, and information on the chemistry, biology, and/or applications of extracellular vesicles.

The Editor-in-Chief Professor Jan Lötvall is supported by 5 deputy editors, a number of associate editors and a large and diverse reviewer pool from across the EV community.

What type of articles are published in JEV?

Articles published in JEV are EV-centric but cover multiple areas.  Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Cellular and molecular mechanisms of extracellular vesicles biogenesis
  • Cellular mechanisms including membrane trafficking and protein sorting related to vesicle extracellular release
  • Technological advances in the isolation, quantification, and characterization of extracellular vesicles
  • Role and function of extracellular vesicles in disease
  • Role and function of extracellular vesicles in biology
  • Signal transduction, cellular uptake, and dissemination of extracellular vesicles
  • Structural biology relating to extracellular vesicles
  • Stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles and their biology
  • Resources of informational databases, including large data sets on genomics, lipidomics, proteomics, metabolomics, high-throughput screening data, and beyond
  • Application of extracellular vesicles for pharmacological, immunological or genetic therapies

The journal accepts original research papers, review articles, short communications, technical reports, position papers, editorials, and Letters to the Editor. Supplementary material in the form of large datasets, protocols, videos, etc. is encouraged.

Article Publishing Charge

JEV is an Open Access international, peer-reviewed journal publishing high-quality, original research in the field of extracellular vesicles. Open Access means you can publish your research so it is free to access online as soon as it is published, meaning anyone can read (and cite) your work. Many funders mandate publishing your research open access; you can check open access funder policies and mandates here.

The standard Article Publication Charge (APC) for research articles and review articles is $4,200/£3,260/EUR 3,780. The APC for members of ISEV is $3,3 01/£2,559/EUR 2,972 if membership is declared on submission. The following article types are eligible to receive a 50% discount on the APC: ISEV Position Papers, Short Communications, and Technical Reports. Depending on your location, The APC may be subject to local taxes.
