Join us for a new EV Fundamental Biology Talk!

We’re delighted to invite you to our next online session featuring Dr. Mohsin Shafiq, researcher at the Institute of Neuropathology, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), Germany.

Talk title: "Extracellular Vesicles in Alzheimer’s Disease: From Plaque Pathology to Neuronal Network Function"

Why attend?
As extracellular vesicles (EVs) gain increasing attention in neurodegenerative diseases, understanding their role in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is critical. In this session, Dr. Shafiq will explore how EVs contribute to amyloid-β (Aβ) aggregation and plaque formation, highlighting the role of prion protein (PrPC)-associated vesicles in disease progression.

He will also present cutting-edge insights into EV cargo signatures derived from human AD brain tissue and their functional effects on neuronal network formation using human iPSC-derived cortical neurons. By integrating biochemical, structural, and multi-omics approaches, this talk will provide a comprehensive view of EV-mediated mechanisms in neurodegeneration.

About the speaker:

Dr. Mohsin Shafiq is a researcher at the Institute of Neuropathology, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), in the laboratory of Prof. Markus Glatzel. He obtained his PhD from the University Medical Center Göttingen under the supervision of Prof. Inga Zerr, where he investigated protein misfolding in rapidly progressive Alzheimer’s disease.

His current research focuses on extracellular vesicles in neurodegeneration, particularly their role in amyloid-β aggregation, oligomer biology, and neuronal dysfunction. His work integrates advanced biochemical and structural techniques, including cryo-electron microscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering, with multi-omics analyses of human brain tissue and disease models.
